One day before your trek to Machu Picchu, we will provide you with a full briefing, including all the details and information you need for the journey.
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 8:00 am to begin our journey to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop will be the town of Chinchero, famous for its traditional weaving techniques. Here, local artisans will teach us about the ancient process of creating beautiful textiles made from alpaca, llama, and sheep wool, a tradition passed down for generations. After learning about this cultural heritage, we will explore the Inca archaeological complex of Chinchero, an impressive example of architecture dedicated to the Andean deities once worshipped in this sacred place.
Our Short Inca Trail adventure begins in Ollantaytambo, where we pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the train station. From here, you will board the PeruRail train and travel to Kilometer 104, the official starting point of the 1-Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The hike covers a distance of 12 km (about 6 miles) along the original Inca Trail, surrounded by stunning Andean landscapes. Along the way, you will visit two remarkable Inca archaeological sites: Chachabamba, a ceremonial ruin at the beginning of the trek, and Wiñayhuayna, often called the “Mini Machu Picchu” for its impressive terraces and sacred temples.
We will enjoy a packed lunch on the trail before continuing uphill to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), the ancient entrance to Machu Picchu used by the Incas. From this unique vantage point, you will experience your first breathtaking panoramic view of Machu Picchu, a truly unforgettable moment. From the Sun Gate, we continue walking about 45 minutes along the royal Inca road until reaching the sacred citadel itself, where you will have time to take the iconic photos and enjoy the magical atmosphere of this World Wonder.
Afterwards, we will take a bus down to Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes), where we will spend the night at a comfortable hotel.
You will start your day with breakfast at your hotel before we pick you up around 6:30 or 7:00 am to return to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Here you will enjoy a comprehensive guided tour of approximately 3 hours, exploring the most important and sacred areas of the Inca citadel. Highlights include the Temple of the Sun, the Inca Palace, the Sacred Fountains, the Temple of the Condor, and many other fascinating sectors that reveal the incredible engineering and spirituality of the Inca civilization.
After the guided tour, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you will have time for lunch before boarding the train to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, private transport will bring you back to your hotel in Cusco, completing an unforgettable journey through the Sacred Valley, the Short Inca Trail, and the majestic Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World
