Sacred Valley Tour from Cusco Maras Moray and Salt Mine

This stunning archaeological site showcases the ingenuity of Inca engineering and agricultural innovation.
It is believed that the Incas designed this impressive site as a sophisticated agricultural laboratory, carefully adapting the natural landscape to test and optimize the growth of various crop species. The terraced circular formations are not only visually striking but also demonstrate advanced knowledge of microclimates, soil conditions, and altitude-based farming.
Visiting this site offers a deep insight into how the Incas mastered the Andean environment, making it a must-see destination for travelers interested in Inca history, sustainable farming practices, and ancient science in the Sacred Valley of Peru.

DAY 1: Maras Full Day

The time of travel to this beautiful place is one hour, following the main trail of the Urubamba valley. The panoramic view is impressive along the trip, because we will see the Vilcanota mountain range.

We will also have the view of the Salkanta mountain and the second mountain, which is one of the biggest mountains in the Cusco city and many around it. We also have the Veronica mountain, which is in the Incas’ sacred valley.

More of the products that are cultivated in this zone are grains, potatoes. Also, there are animals such as llamas, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys, etc.

Moray is a natural whole on the ground, as the big thinkers adapted stone work in a circle, and took advantage of it as a place of knowledge of agriculture, and now we know thanks to the archaeologists that it was a laboratory center in the time of the Incas.

Here, they made the manipulation of foods like potatoes and corn, and thanks to this investigation center, we currently have 4000 varieties of potatoes and 3000 varieties of corn. This is in all of Peru.

Salt mines Maras
The visit continues to the salt mines in the community of Maras. In our cars it will take us approximately 40 minutes to arrive and learn and explore why? The salt of this mountain is currently used by locals to sell and export to neighboring countries of South America.

Naturally this is a knowledge that has been passed down from generation by generation since our Inca ancestors.

The work done is of alpacas and sheep, all work is natural, the colors are made of natural plants and no chemicals.

Is an opportunity for you if you want to take some as a souvenir of the area, and we will be also supporting the people who continue with these works, and their knowledge that it will remain alive for future generations.

The return is the same route in time to be in the city of Cusco.
